Different Learning Styles Students have different ways to learn. Some people are hands on learners or visual learners. Teachers try to adapt the way they teach; to the way their students learn the best. The information that is being taught should be made fun so that the students remember the information. Schools are also using new technology to help students learn. Different learning styles have different effects on people. Different learning styles are the talk of many school districts from near and far. The study of different learning styles has gone back since the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. We all know that people have different ways of learning, so teachers try to teach the way their†¦show more content†¦Prediction of educational psychology course grades by age and learning style scores did a study to show how different learning styles effect test and course grades. They use 105 college students who took four tests. ?The best predictions of the course grade were the students? ages and two Inventory of Learning Processing and Fact Retention. The Deep Processing scale measures high-order type of items which include analyses, evaluations, and comparisons of information; whereas, the Fact Retention scale measures low-order type of items which include factual information and memory recall.? (Gadzella,2002) The ILP (Inventory of Learning Processing) is assessed by be havioral-process orientation and used to study actual classroom behaviors. Deep processing scale assesses to what extent to which ?subjects critically evaluate, analyze, organize, and compare and contrast information.? (Gadzella, 2002) Fact Retention scale assesses ?how effectively specific factual information is retrieved from one?s memory.? The ethical issue lie on who to blame among the main stakeholders, where the main stakeholders in this situation include the engineers, the national transportation safety board, conductor and assistant conductor CSX Transportation Inc and also WGN company. The main decision makers in the case include the media, the United States government and also the National Transportation Safety Board. The company had a cooperate responsibility of following the legal procedures which are set by the relevant authorities in ensuring improved social welfare of the community (Loudon, 1986). For example the company was expected to adhere to the measures which were set by National Transportation Safety Board in improving the passengers safety when on board, but the company otherwise decided not to follow the rules by not   equipping the train with the sensor which was meant to detect the bridge damages. Law provides a basis for an ethical decision on the legal, economic, ethical and philanthropic issues of cooperate social responsibility. Law provide that the companies should adhere to the set standards of operating which are intended to improve the welfare of the community and this include the rules for the protection of humanity and the environment. The companies are expected to observe some safety measure during their operation to ensure that the participates in their operation, both the workers and the users of their products are safe. The law also provide that companies are expected to instill the safety measures despite the cost of implementing the safety measures. Companies are likely to avoid taking some safety measures because of the costs involved in the implementation, therefore law is meant to ensure that the safety measures are in place. Companies are certain to value profits more than the human lives therefore posing an ethical problem (Bentham, 2007). Law is needed in protecting humanity because it will ensure that companies are protecting humanity despite their much interest in profit maximization. Most cooperation are profit maximizing and for that reason they do not like spending in charitable activities toward the improvement of the community welfare as a cooperate social responsibility, otherwise they perceive the donations as a waste of resources. This situation call for the act of law to ensure that the companies provide for charitable activities aimed at improving the welfare of the community in which they operate in so as so make their operations reflective of the society in which they operate in (Hess and Bales, 2007). Law is therefore meant to make them contribute to charitable activities in proportion to the companies’ wealth, hence the promotion of philanthropy. Conclusion and Recommendations. From the Amtrack case study, the main ethical issue is the conflicting interests in society which gave an opportunity for the occurrence of the accident. The Amtrack company is concern with lowering its operating costs at the expense of human safety who use the company train. The National transport safety board is also concerned with the safety of the passengers. Due to the conflicting interests in the society as portrayed in the case, there occurs the need for having set rules which are meant to cater for the interests of all persons in society. The rules which are part of the country of the country’s law should be set in a manner in which all the parties’ interest are considered and judgement made on   the basis of mutual benefits. The positive implication of the recommendation is that order will be restored in society as everybody will be expected to behave in a manner in which is expected to promote the general good of everybody. The negative implication of the recommendation is that some entities in societies will feel restrained in achieved their interest at the expense of the other entities’ welfare. The possible criticism over the recommendation is that, it is difficult to exactly draws a balance over interests because the interest of individuals’ are varied thus a unattainable. The best possible way to address the criticism is to make a judgement based on the premise that one is expected to behave in manner in which he   or she   may expect to be treated when in a situation like that of his or her neighbor in promoting the general happiness. Self-discovery through Adversity Essay A self-discovery is the act or process achieving self-knowledge. In the short stories, A Small, Good Thing by John Updike and The Rich Brother by Tobias Wolff, self-discoveries took place with Ann and Peter. Ann was a mother of one and a wife. Peter was a husband and a real estate agent. In the end both Ann and Peter come to a self-discovery. Ann Weiss, from A Small, Good Thing, discovered how much she cared for her son. How she would do anything to get him back. After the death of her son the Baker put her over the top. The phone calls that he would make were not called for at all. Ann was very unstable and she was about to blow at any second. When they got to the Bakers she went off on him. Her son is dead and she is just going to have to move on with her life. Peter, from The Rich Brother, discovered that no matter what his brother did he really did love him. Donald, Peters brother, would always come to Peter for help. Donald never had any money. Every time Donald would need a place to stay Peter would let him stay at his house that he worked so hard to get. Ann and Peter, both came to a self-discovery in their life. There are some similarities between the self-discoveries of Ann and Peter. One similarity was how much love they had for their respective family. Ann being a mother she loved her son so much. She spent all of her time at the hospital wait for her son to wake up. She only went home once during the three days her son was in a comma. Peter did love his brother Donald. Peter always gave Donald money and let him stay at his house that he had worked so hard for. Donald went off to live at a farm. When he needed a place to stay because he was kicked off the farm, Pete said, I guess youll have to stay with us. Then Pete said, Ill come get you(Wolff 67). He knew that Donald would hitch hike home if he sent him money for a bus fare. So Pete picked him up. They also differ with each other. For example, Ann has always loved her son on the other hand Pete at one point tried to kill Donald. When they were younger he would hit Donald in the stomach right were hit stitches were. Yet another difference between the characters is the fact that Ann was getting the calls from the Baker. The phone does not mean anything to Peter. Ann and Peter both discover how much they love a family member. In both of the stories cars where very significant. With Ann a car hit her son which put him in the hospital. Peter loved his new car and that is where most of the story takes place. Pete is just picking up Donald at Jonathans Mechanical Emporium. Donald asks Pete for some money. Pete gives him 100 dollars. Donald buys two sodas. Donald spills his soda all over the front seat before they even leave the gas station. Pete said, Wipe it up, Quick! Later he said, These seats are leather I do not see why I can not have leather seats that smell like leather instead of orange pop. Another similarity between both of the stories there was a significant other that also cared. Ann had her husband. He was with her the whole time as their son was dying. Peter had his wife. In his head as he was driving away from Donald he hears his wife say, Where is he? Where is your brother? That is what makes him go and get his brother. Peters self-discovery took the time from when he dropped off Donald till he hears his wifes words. Anns took about three days. Their self-discoveries were both short. The baker made phone calls while Peter got a letter from the head of the farm Donald was at.
